Taking time to pause and reflect, to celebrate the successes of the year and express gratitude for the people who made them possible, is an important and often overlooked practice. For organizations, it’s the perfect time to bring teams together with purpose. Whether through a company retreat, a holiday celebration, or a staff appreciation event, intentional gatherings can strengthen workplace culture, improve communication, and rekindle motivation.

Why Corporate Retreats Matter

A well-planned retreat does more than provide a change of scenery; it helps teams refocus and reconnect. Corporate retreats can enhance collaboration, boost morale, and inspire creativity. At Ancient Lore Village, we often see groups use this time to set goals for the upcoming year, participate in interactive workshops, and foster a renewed sense of unity. Incorporating moments of reflection and relaxation ensures that everyone leaves refreshed and ready to bring their best selves back to work.

The Value of Celebrating Together

As the holiday season approaches, company celebrations offer a unique opportunity to show appreciation and reinforce a positive culture. Hosting a festive event in an inspiring setting helps employees feel valued, connected, and engaged. It’s not just about the food and décor; it’s about creating memories that remind people they are an important part of something bigger than themselves.

Appreciation as a Leadership Practice

Gratitude is one of the most powerful tools in leadership. Recognition events, appreciation lunches, and year-end gatherings provide leaders with a platform to express gratitude to their teams in meaningful ways. When employees feel acknowledged, their sense of loyalty and pride in their work naturally increases, resulting in stronger retention and improved performance.

This season, consider how your organization can gather with purpose, whether through reflection, celebration, or simple acts of gratitude. A thoughtful event can do more than end the year well; it can set the tone for success in the year ahead.

Every season holds its own wisdom, but autumn has a way of speaking to the soul. As the air turns crisp and the leaves burn with color, we are invited to pause and consider the shifting rhythm of life. At Ancient Lore Village, the spirit of autumn is especially felt — in the gardens, by the fire, and in the gatherings that bring us together.

The Balance of the Equinox

The Fall Equinox, occurring in late September, is the moment when daylight and darkness are equal. Many cultures have long marked this day as sacred. Ancient harvest festivals celebrated not only the gathering of crops but also the harmony between opposing forces: light and dark, action and rest, the outer and inner worlds.

This balance is a reminder to seek our own equilibrium. Perhaps it means setting aside quiet time for reflection after a busy day, or simply enjoying a walk among the trees to center ourselves.

A Season of Harvest and Gratitude

Autumn is known as the “harvest season,” and not only for the fields. It is a time to take stock of the fruits of our own labor and to give thanks for abundance in all its forms — from food and friendship to growth and wisdom gained over the year.

Historically, communities would gather to celebrate the bounty of the harvest, often with feasts, storytelling, and music. In the Village, this spirit is echoed when guests share meals at round tables, where conversation and connection flow easily between friends old and new.

A simple way to honor the harvest in daily life is by starting a gratitude ritual: jot down three things you’re thankful for each day, no matter how small.

Transformation in Every Leaf

One of the greatest teachers of autumn is transformation. Trees let go of their leaves not in loss, but in preparation — making way for renewal. In that same spirit, autumn asks us: what are we ready to release?

Taking a moment to notice the colors of the season, or even collecting a few fallen leaves as tokens of change, can remind us that letting go can be beautiful.

Welcoming October’s Enchantment

As October unfolds, the Village becomes a living canvas of autumn’s magic — crisp evenings by the fire, strolls through the gardens brushed with golden light, and moments that linger in memory. Wherever you may be, the season invites you to embrace balance, celebrate abundance, and welcome transformation.

In the dance of autumn, we find not only the story of nature, but also the story of ourselves.

In the fast-paced world of corporate strategy, growth, and leadership, “different” often means risk. But what if different was the very thing your team needed to think bigger, collaborate better, and return to the office inspired?

At Ancient Lore Village, we believe that extraordinary environments unlock extraordinary results. That’s why we designed our property to be like no other place on earth—a place where fantasy, nature, and business goals unite in harmony. And the results speak for themselves.

Beyond the Ballroom: Why Unique Venues Boost Engagement

Corporate teams spend countless hours in beige boardrooms and identical hotel meeting spaces. The environment is forgettable—and often, so is the meeting. Studies in environmental psychology show that novel settings spark curiosity, increase attention spans, and enhance memory retention.

When guests arrive at Ancient Lore Village, they aren’t just attending a meeting—they’re stepping into a story. Treehouses, waterfalls, and meandering garden paths replace fluorescent lights and uninspiring walls. The change in scenery alone can rewire the brain for creativity.

Experiential Meetings: What the Research Says

Experiential learning isn’t just a buzzword. According to the Event Leadership Institute, interactive, hands-on experiences increase attendee engagement by 29% and information retention by over 40%.

At Ancient Lore Village, we infuse every retreat with opportunities to connect on a deeper level: from team challenges based on village lore, to archery contests and culinary experiences that foster collaboration and laughter. These shared adventures turn coworkers into comrades.

A Measurable Return on Magic

We’ve welcomed corporate teams from a variety of industries, and their feedback is consistent: higher morale, clearer communication, and stronger bonds. Many have reported post-retreat productivity spikes and improved team dynamics after just a few days in our village.

One recent guest summed it up perfectly: “Our team came here to align on strategy. We left aligned on purpose.”

Three people are throwing axes at wooden targets in an outdoor lane with wood chips on the ground, embracing one of the 5 Ways to Start Your New Year With Magic at Ancient Lore Village—a place where every toss adds a touch of enchantment to your fresh beginnings.

Rethink What a Meeting Can Be

If you’re looking to achieve the same old results, a standard venue will do. But if you’re seeking transformation, creativity, and connection, it’s time to choose a place designed to be different.

Come discover why a village built on story, nature, and wonder is the ideal place to write your next chapter.

Have you ever noticed how your energy shifts when you step into a cozy cabin, a vibrant forest, or even a sunny, open room? That’s no coincidence—our surroundings play a powerful role in shaping our thoughts, emotions, and even our drive to begin something new.

As we step into May and embrace the theme of Perfect Place for New Beginnings, it’s the ideal time to explore how environment influences mindset and motivation—and why place truly matters more than we think.

Wedding Venue Waterfall

The Psychology of Place

Our brains are wired to respond to our environments. From lighting and color to temperature and acoustics, every element of a space can trigger subtle psychological cues. Bright natural light can increase serotonin and improve mood. Nature sounds can reduce stress and support focus. Even the presence of certain shapes—like curves versus sharp angles—can affect how safe and relaxed we feel.

When we’re in a space that feels open, harmonious, and inspiring, we’re more likely to feel motivated, creative, and open to new ideas. Conversely, cluttered or chaotic environments can trigger anxiety or dampen our willingness to try something different.

Designing Your Perfect Place

You don’t have to travel across the world to find your perfect place—it can begin with a few intentional changes in your current environment. Ask yourself:

  • Does this space reflect the person I want to be?

  • Are there elements of calm, inspiration, and beauty?

  • What could I add or remove to help this space support my goals?

Whether it’s a meditation nook, a writing desk, or a garden corner, creating a personal sanctuary—no matter how small—can anchor you in purpose and invite new beginnings to bloom.

Where New Journeys Begin

At Ancient Lore Village, we believe in the magic of meaningful places. Hidden away in the hills of East Tennessee, our village was designed to awaken wonder, curiosity, and connection—not just with nature and others, but with ourselves.

Whether you’re starting a new chapter, seeking rest and renewal, or simply craving a space to breathe and dream, finding the right place can be the first step. This May, let your environment become your ally in transformation.

Place as a Catalyst for Change

Environments don’t just affect how we feel—they can also shape who we become. Consider how a new gym can kickstart a fitness journey, or how a cozy café might inspire you to finally write that book. When we associate a place with possibility, it becomes fertile ground for transformation.

Researchers call this the “restorative effect” of environments. Nature-rich or beautifully designed spaces can help us break free from mental ruts and reignite our inner spark. This is why retreats, pilgrimages, and sabbaticals have long existed—to physically go somewhere new is often the first step toward becoming someone new.

Here’s to new beginnings—and the perfect places that make them possible.

The Power of Positivity in Workplaces

Much like Ancient Lore Village was designed to be a retreat from the chaos of the modern world, Agile teams using the SWAY System thrive when they are shielded from unnecessary negativity, micromanagement, and rigid structures. This mindset encourages:

    • Collaboration Over Competition – Agile’s emphasis on cross-functional teams means that success is shared, not hoarded. Teams that celebrate collective wins and learn from setbacks together create a culture where only good exists.
    • Adaptive Problem-Solving – Change is inevitable, but in an Agile environment, it’s not feared—it’s embraced. By fostering psychological safety, team members feel comfortable proposing new ideas and pivoting when needed without fear of blame.
    • Frequent Positive Reinforcement – Regular retrospectives and stand-ups encourage team members to acknowledge each other’s contributions, reinforcing a cycle of appreciation and continuous improvement.

At Ancient Lore Village, we were introduced to Agile and the SWAY System by the creator of the SWAY System herself, Marina Alex. Marina became our business coach and truly transformed our management and operational business model and we have seen overwhelming positive results, from revenue growth, to lowered employee turnover rates, and overall guest satisfaction. To learn more about Agile and SWAY visit https://www.swaysystem.org/ and set up a consultation with Marina! Bringing the Spirit of Ancient Lore Village to Your Office

Bonfire in the Village Gardens

At Ancient Lore Village, the experience is designed around harmony, storytelling, and meaningful connection—qualities that are essential for any workplace looking to embrace an Agile approach. Here’s how businesses can apply these principles:

  1. Create Spaces for Connection – Just as Ancient Lore Village fosters community through shared experiences, Agile companies benefit from open collaboration spaces, team-building retreats, and opportunities to step away from daily tasks to realign on values.
  2. Encourage Storytelling in Leadership – Leaders who share experiences, lessons learned, and visions for the future create a culture of trust and engagement. Storytelling isn’t just for campfires—it’s a tool that connects employees to a greater purpose.
  3. Build a Culture of Psychological Safety – When employees feel safe to speak up, experiment, and learn from failures, they contribute their best work. Much like how Ancient Lore Village offers a sanctuary for the soul, companies should strive to be a sanctuary for innovation.

Transform Your Team in a Place Where Only Good Exists

Bringing a people-first mindset into the workplace fosters an environment where positivity isn’t just an afterthought—it’s a way of operating. Whether you’re looking to refresh your leadership approach, strengthen team dynamics, or simply take a step back to refocus on what truly matters, a retreat into nature and connection might be just what your team needs.

Looking for a team-building retreat that embodies this philosophy? Explore corporate retreats at Ancient Lore Village and give your team the space to recharge, reconnect, and reimagine a workplace where only good exists. In need of speakers or facilitators for your meeting or retreat? We can provide that as well!

Imagine stepping into your garden, brushing your fingers against soft chamomile blossoms, inhaling the refreshing scent of mint, or plucking fresh lemongrass for a soothing brew. Herbal tea gardening isn’t just a hobby—it’s a sensory experience, a wellness ritual, and a connection to nature. Whether you’re a seasoned gardener or a budding green thumb, growing your own herbal tea garden is a rewarding journey filled with flavors, aromas, and a touch of magic.

Ready to sip straight from your garden? Let’s dive in.

Choosing Your Herbal Tea Stars

Your herbal tea garden starts with choosing the right plants. Consider flavors, medicinal benefits, and ease of growth. Here are some top picks:

  • Chamomile – A delicate flower with a honey-apple aroma, perfect for calming teas. Direct sow after the last frost and let it bask in the sunshine.
  • Mint (Peppermint, Spearmint, Chocolate Mint) – Easy to grow and incredibly refreshing. Be warned—it spreads quickly. Grow in containers to keep it contained.
  • Lemon Balm – A citrusy delight that soothes the soul and aids digestion. Loves sunshine but tolerates a bit of shade.
  • Lemongrass – With its fresh lemony zing, it’s a tea garden essential. Difficult to grow from seed, so start with a plant or propagate from store-bought stalks.
  • Dandelion – A misunderstood treasure. Dandelion root makes a bold, coffee-like tea when roasted (see below for roasting tips).
  • Lavender – Aromatic, floral, and relaxing. Best propagated from cuttings or purchased as a plant since it’s tricky to grow from seed.

Each of these herbs brings unique flavors and health benefits to your cup. Mix and match to create your signature blend.

Planting & Growing Tips

Now that you’ve chosen your tea herbs, let’s get them growing.

  • Sunlight Matters – Most herbs love full sun (six or more hours a day). Choose a bright, sunny spot for best results.
  • Water Wisely – Check soil moisture before watering—herbs dislike soggy feet. Stick a finger in the soil; if it’s dry an inch down, it’s time to water.
  • Spacing is Key – Give plants room to grow. Proper airflow prevents disease and helps herbs flourish.
  • Container or Ground? – If space is limited, container gardening works beautifully. Use well-draining potting soil with vermiculite or perlite for healthy roots.
  • Compost & Soil Health – Boost soil with organic compost or amendments. For soil testing and improvement, check with your local agricultural extension office.

Harvesting & Drying: Preserving the Goodness

Fresh herbs are wonderful, but drying them extends their shelf life and intensifies their flavors.

  • Dehydrator Method – The easiest way to dry tea herbs. Just spread them out and let the machine do the work.
  • Air-Drying Bundles – Gather small bundles of herbs, tie them together, and hang them upside down in a dry, dark place.
  • Flat Drying – Spread herbs between layers of paper towels for even drying.
  • No Mold, Please – Ensure herbs are fully dried before storing. Any moisture left can lead to mold and ruin your tea.

Roasting Dandelion Root: A Cozy, Coffee-Like Treat

Dandelion root makes a delicious, earthy tea that resembles coffee. Here’s how to roast it:

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F.
  2. Wash fresh dandelion roots, scrubbing off dirt. Remove tiny threadlike roots.
  3. Let them dry, then chop into ¼-inch pieces.
  4. Spread on a baking sheet in a single layer.
  5. Roast for 30 minutes, stirring every 10 minutes until they turn golden brown and fragrant.
  6. Let cool, then store in an airtight container.

Brew like coffee or steep as tea for a rich, nutty drink packed with health benefits.

Crafting Your Perfect Herbal Tea Blends

Now comes the fun part—brewing. Try these easy blends:

  • Dreamy Nighttime Tea – Chamomile + Lavender + Lemon Balm
  • Immune Booster – Peppermint + Ginger + Dandelion Root
  • Stress Relief – Lemon Balm + Chamomile + Mint
  • Refreshing Citrus Twist – Lemongrass + Lemon Balm + Mint

To brew, steep one to two teaspoons of dried herbs in hot water for five to ten minutes. Strain and enjoy.

In today’s fast-paced corporate world, employees are seeking more than just financial rewards. While competitive salaries and benefits are important, what truly motivates employees to stay engaged and perform at their best is feeling valued, recognized, and connected to a greater purpose. When organizations prioritize appreciation and team-building, they cultivate a workplace culture that fosters loyalty, productivity, and job satisfaction.

Recognition: A Powerful Motivator

Employees who feel recognized for their contributions are more likely to be engaged and committed to their work. A simple ‘thank you’ or public acknowledgment of achievements can go a long way in boosting morale. Formal recognition programs, such as ‘Employee of the Month’ or peer-nominated awards, further reinforce a culture of appreciation.

Beyond traditional recognition, personalized gestures such as handwritten notes, team shout-outs, or celebrating milestones can make employees feel truly valued. When recognition is woven into the company culture, it not only enhances job satisfaction but also improves retention and productivity.

The Importance of Feeling Like Part of a Team

Employees are more motivated when they feel connected to their colleagues and the company’s mission. A sense of belonging fosters collaboration, trust, and enthusiasm for shared goals. When employees feel part of a supportive team, they are more likely to contribute innovative ideas, support one another, and remain committed to long-term success.

Leaders play a critical role in creating this environment by encouraging open communication, fostering inclusivity, and ensuring that every team member’s voice is heard and valued.

Strengthening Workplace Relationships Through Team Building

Team-building activities are a great way to strengthen relationships, improve communication, and build trust among employees. Whether it’s an offsite retreat, a team lunch, or a fun problem-solving challenge, these activities provide opportunities for employees to connect beyond their day-to-day responsibilities.

Effective team-building exercises should be engaging and inclusive, allowing employees to showcase their strengths while collaborating toward a common goal. Activities such as outdoor adventures, escape rooms, or collaborative workshops encourage teamwork and break down barriers between departments.

Creating a Culture of Appreciation

Building a culture where employees feel valued requires consistent effort. Here are a few strategies to ensure that recognition and connection remain a priority:

  • Encourage frequent feedback and recognition – Acknowledge accomplishments in team meetings, emails, or one-on-one conversations.
  • Provide growth opportunities – Invest in employees’ professional development through mentorship, training, and career advancement programs.
  • Host team-building events regularly – Plan retreats, workshops, or social gatherings to strengthen team bonds.
  • Foster an inclusive environment – Encourage diverse perspectives and create an atmosphere where all employees feel welcome and appreciated.

The Lasting Impact

When employees feel recognized and connected, they bring more energy, passion, and dedication to their work. By fostering a culture of appreciation and team spirit, organizations create an environment where employees thrive—leading to higher job satisfaction, better collaboration, and ultimately, greater business success.

In recent years, the world of weddings has undergone a dynamic transformation. Couples are redefining traditions and embracing new ways to celebrate their love, focusing on experiences, individuality, and intimacy. Three major trends are taking center stage: multi-day festivities, unique wedding themes, and micro weddings. Let’s dive into these exciting shifts and explore why they’re captivating couples and guests alike.

Multi-day Festivities: Making Memories Over Multiple Days

Gone are the days when weddings were confined to a single-day affair. Many couples are opting for multi-day festivities, allowing friends and family to fully immerse themselves in the joy and festivities. These extended events often kick off with a welcome party or rehearsal dinner on Friday, followed by the main ceremony and reception on Saturday, and a relaxed brunch or casual gathering on Sunday.

The appeal of a weekend wedding lies in the opportunity to create lasting memories and spend quality time with loved ones. It’s especially popular for destination weddings, where guests have traveled far and appreciate having more time to connect. From outdoor adventures and group activities to wine tastings and spa days, couples are personalizing their wedding weekends to reflect their unique personalities and shared interests.

Uniquely Themed Weddings: Embracing Creativity

Wedding themes have always been a way to add personality to a celebration, but today’s couples are taking creativity to the next level with unconventional themes. Think celestial-inspired ceremonies under the stars, 1920s Gatsby-esque parties, or even fandom-based weddings featuring elements from favorite movies, books, or TV shows.

These out-of-the-box themes offer a chance to break from tradition and celebrate in a way that feels authentically “you.” Guests often enjoy the interactive and immersive nature of themed weddings, which can include everything from unique decor and costumes to signature cocktails and playlists that fit the vibe. It’s all about creating a memorable experience that’s equal parts fun and meaningful.

Micro Weddings: Intimate and Impactful

The micro wedding trend is proof that less can indeed be more. Characterized by guest lists of 50 or fewer, these intimate gatherings prioritize meaningful connections and high-quality experiences over large-scale extravagance. Many couples are choosing micro weddings as a way to focus on what truly matters—celebrating their love with their closest friends and family.

The smaller scale allows for more flexibility in terms of budget and location. Whether it’s a cozy backyard affair, a chic city rooftop, or a serene mountaintop elopement, micro weddings offer the chance to get creative with venues and details. Plus, the reduced guest count often means couples can splurge on personalized touches, gourmet dining, or bespoke entertainment.

Why These Trends Are Here to Stay

The common thread among these trends is a focus on personalization and meaningful connections. Couples today want their weddings to be a reflection of their unique stories and values, whether that means hosting a weekend-long celebration, throwing an unconventional themed party, or keeping it intimate with a micro wedding. These trends prioritize quality over quantity, fostering a sense of authenticity that resonates with modern sensibilities.

As we look to the future, it’s clear that weddings will continue to evolve, adapting to the desires and creativity of each new generation. Whether you’re planning your big day or simply attending, these trends invite us all to rethink what’s possible and embrace the endless ways to celebrate love.
